Recovery on the MID A8 Cortex heropad/hiapad C8

Unlike another generic tablet that I used to have this device has a recovery that’s really easy to access.

When the device is powered down hold the menu button and then press the power button to turn it on.

As it boots up you’ll see a message, under the little android icon, saying that it’s starting in recovery mode.

I’ve found that you can just dab the menu button once, right after it’s responded to the power on button.  But most people have suggested that you need to hold the menu down before the power button and keep it held down.

Once it’s started in recovery mode it’ll check the External SD card for an image that can be used to flash the device.

If there is one the flashing will start automatically.

However if there isn’t one, on the SD card you have 2 options.

  1. Press the Back button – cancels the update and shuts down
  2. Press the Menu button – starts the Flashing process

VERY IMPORTANT – if you start the flashing process do not turn of the device – it might cause some real damage to the image.

So far I’ve not actually actioned a re-flash via the external Card, but I have used the stock one that’s available if there isn’t one on the external SDCard.

Using the Stock firmware appears to do a full re-flash.  For example changes that I had made to /system/build.prod had reverted and everything installed on the device was also removed.

Unlike a factory reset – where the /system/build.prop isn’t changed.
